I grew up as a horse crazy girl, jumping into ANY opportunity to be involved with horses. Sound familiar?! As luck would have it, when my non-horsey parents finally found a barn for lessons, it was an Arabian barn. I dove head first into the Arabian horse world, finding my way to competing in every possible event on some incredibly amazing, high caliber horses. As if this wasn’t enough, I also participated in 4H, OHSET, did lots of trail riding, and of course goofed around with my other horse crazy friends and our horses. As I grew up, the constant in my life was always horses, and I naturally began my career specializing in training Arabians, but taking on all types of breeds and cases. At some point, I transitioned into instructing, and Unicorn Academy PDX was born! 

 

        Since then, I have found so much joy from teaching and sharing my love of horses with kids, and take pride in the specialized and unique (not unlike a unicorn!) riding program I have created. With all of the diverse experiences from my background, I found my stride as an instructor by bringing in the advanced skills and knowledge from competing and training at such a high level, and the fun and joy I experienced from my more casual riding endeavors. 

 

        At Unicorn Academy, I focus on giving riders a strong foundation in all areas of horsemanship, and allow each student to find their own path with horses. With plenty of opportunities through lessons, shows, camps, and barn events, students are able to discover what horses and riding mean to them, all the while developing the valuable confidence in themselves that riding and caring for a horse brings. The pillars of the riding program reflect all that I have learned and experienced through my lifetime as an equestrian- safety for human and horse, top notch riding skills and education, quality of care and treatment of horses, and of course having FUN!!
